Sixth practice day: Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill leaves with injury to leg

On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs celebrated their sixth session since padded training camp practices began last Friday.

The big news is that star-studded receiver Tyreek Hill left the practice about halfway through the session with an apparent leg injury, which happened when he pulled up after hitting a long pass in a 1-on-1 drill (fia ESPN). He ran off the field – where coaches appeared to be looking at his right leg – and then went inside. He just came back (fia Kansas City Star). The Chiefs later said it was a hamstring problem.

Defensive end Alex Okafor left the practice early as well. The Chiefs said he had a calf injury.

No. 2 wide receiver Sammy Watkins has now missed several days of practice (including Thursday) with a reading injury. But wide receiver Byron Pringle and cornerback Antonio Hamilton both returned to the training ground.

Safety Juan Thornhill was back in practice but was limited to individual work as the team recovered from his ACL operation.

Left-back Eric Fisher missed the practice – he stays in concussion protocol – as did defensive end Frank Clark, who continues to sideline with a stomach virus.

Other players will miss practice on Thursday:

  • Defensive Approach Chris Jones (body)
  • Close a Ricky Seals-Jones (leg)
  • Tight end Deon Yelder (liif)
  • Cornerback Lavert Hill (hoarding)

Offensive lineman Martinas Rankin remains on the team’s physical non-executive list. He did not practice on Thursday either.
