Six quick facts about Zach Wilson from BYU



After rising NFL draft boards throughout the fall, BYU quarterback Zack Wilson on Friday felt his pro day would only help a little more. As the Jets weigh in on whether to pick a Gunslinger with the No. 2 pick and move on from former No. 3 pick Sam Darnold, here are six things you may not know about Wilson:

.. If Wilson ends up in New York, his family should have no problem getting to MetLife Stadium from Utah. His uncle, David Neeleman, is the founder of JetBlue among other airlines.

2. Wilson was originally committed to Boise State, but eventually switched to BYU because he wanted to play closer to home. The Cougars play about 30 miles from where Wilson grew up in the Draper of the Age, and Wilson is part of a larger family – his grandparents have seven children, 36 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, according to Deseret News.

3. Wilson is of Hawaiian descent and his middle name is Capone – meaning “righteous.”

4 According to Peter King of NBC Sports, Vixen was making 10-hour drives in Southern California to work with his quarterback teacher, John Beck, the year before his breakout junior. When the Cavid-19 canceled BYU’s spring workouts, Wilson stopped for a stretch in California and worked for Dordesh on Saturday night to help pay for gas and expenses, King reported.

5. Wilson could be BYU’s biggest star… Jimmer Fredet? And there’s a bit of admiration for Wilson in the previous college basketball sensation. “I want to be when I grow up [Wilson], ”Fredett Tweeted in November, Wilson won 51-17 at No. 21 Boise State after No. 9 BYU.

6. How is this for hand-eye coordination? Wilson recently undertook juggling “and he mastered it,” Wilson’s brother, Josh, told Desert News.
