Sister Deirdre Byrne touts Trump’s pro-life bona fides

A Catholic nun – who previously had stints as a surgeon, army colonel and missionary – saluted President Trump as “the most pro-life president this nation has ever had” in an address Wednesday at the 2020 Republican National Convention.

Sister Deirdre “Dede” Byrne, a member of the Little Workers of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, said Trump defended “life at all stages.” ‘

“Because of his courage and conviction, President Trump has earned the support of America’s pro-life community,” Byrne said.

Trump once paid tribute to Byrne, referring to her in his speech “Salute to America” on July 4, 2019, according to the Catholic news agency.

In his speech, the president talked about how Byrne rode to Ground Zero on 9/11 to help first responders.

She was in New York that day to bring a religious sister to a medical appointment when tragedy struck, Georgetown Health Magazine reported earlier. She would continue working in a first aid tent on the site for the next few days.
