Trini Lopez dies of coronavirus

Singer-actor Trini Lopez has died of coronavirus at the age of 83, Billboard reports. His songwriting and business partner Joe Chavira announced that Lopez died Tuesday of complications from Covid-19 at a Palm Springs hospital. The ‘If I Had A Hammer’ and ‘Lemon Tree’ singer was signed by Frank Sinatra on Reprise Records, designed signature guitars for Gibson, recorded more than 60 albums and was a popular performer in Las Vegas. He appeared famously in the 1967 war film “The Dirty Dozen” as a convict named Pedro Jimenez, opposite Syracuse football legend Jim Brown, Clint Walker, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Bronson, John Cassavetes, George Kennedy, Robert Ryan, Telly Savalas and Donald Sutherland. Lopez also had roles in “Marriage on the Rocks,” “The Poppy is a Flower,” and “Adam-12.”

Restart drama ‘Fresh Prince’

ET reports “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is being re-launched as a drama. “Bel-Air,” an hour-long series based on the Morgan Cooper short film that re-enacts the sitcom of the 1990s as a dark and grim tale about a teenager who travels from West Philadelphia to California relocated, is currently being moved to streaming services. Willbro and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Universal TV are the project with Cooper directing, producing and co-writing with showrunner Chris Collins. No word yet on a cast or release date.
