As the cameras began streaming from Edmonton, the players entered one by one. You could see Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Jason Dickinson, Bo Horvat, Nazem Kadri and Ryan Reaves making their way to the dais as if it were just them in a Marriott conference room.
But it was not. More and more players arrived. They were from the Colorado Avalanche, the Dallas Stars, the Vancouver Canucks and the Golden Knights of Vegas. It took more than three minutes for everyone who entered this space to find a place to stand. Some of them cut for the camera. Others were on the sidelines, making it impossible for anyone who saw this visual prelude to determine exactly how many NHL players were in that room.
Maybe that was the point.
