Signing WR Terrelle Pryor would make sense to reorganize the Patriots

The New England Patriots have restructured their roster this offseason and it looks like they’re looking for more help at the wide receiver position.

According to a TMZ report, Terrelle Pryor’s representatives have been in contact with various NFL teams, including New England. Pryor has not played in the NFL since the 2018 season, but he managed to have some success. The wide receiver career is somewhat impressive, given the fact that he played as a quarterback at Ohio State.

Pryor’s best season as a wide receiver came in 2016, when he caught 77 catches for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns. He has been bitten by the injury error over the course of his career. The 2016 season is the only season at this point in his career where he played all 16 games.

New England should take a chance on Pryor. The addition of Cam Newton allows the offense to take risks and feel comfortable doing so. Taking a risk with a younger quarterback like Stidham wouldn’t necessarily be advisable. If New England at least brought Pryor, they could possibly regain the magic of Pryor’s 2016 season. They can afford to take on project players in a season like this.

Pryor would add a deep threat and an athletic weapon. Those are two things that New England could always use. With the way Newton can throw the ball deep, Pryor could schematically fit in for this offense. With his athleticism and the way he can hit the field, Pryor has the ability to turn small plays into big ones. He is not going to be the fastest receiver in NFL history, but he does have the athletic ability that allows him to expand the field.

Yes, he hasn’t played since 2018. However, the Patriots could definitely use a healthy Pryor as a wide receiver. In six games in the 2018 season, he averaged 15.8 yards per reception. In a year when things look different, the organization should not leave stone unturned as they prepare for the future.
