Significant arrests were made as Nintendo’s piracy probe continued

The FBI raided Team Zacker

The Justice Department has announced that three leading members of the long-running hack-maker Team Zecutor have been arrested as Nintendo continues to fight the sale and resale of “jailbreak” devices for its hardware range.

Canadian Gary Bauer, Chinese national Yuan Chen and French national Max Lauren were arrested by the FBI in September. All three face a total of 11 criminal charges for the manufacture and distribution of switch hacking devices such as the SX Core and SX Lite. Luren was arraigned in U.S. court for a hearing. Bausser, who was deported from the Dominican Republic, appeared in federal court in New Jersey on Friday.

The news follows a successful lawsuit that saw hack seller Uberchips order Nintendo to pay નુકસાન 2 million in damages for stockpiling Team Xecuter devices. Nintendo is currently investigating at least eight other retailers for similar offenses, but due to the underground nature of the piracy market, the publisher is yet to find the identities of store holders.
