Shooting confirmed at Pembroke Lakes Mall; police say 2 people are in custody

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. Two people are in custody after a shooting at Pembroke Lakes Mall on Friday afternoon, Pembroke Pines police said.

No other suspects are believed to be large.

Sky 10 was on top as two casualties were taken in rescue vehicles outside Dillard’s store on the north side of the mall, at 11945 Pines Boulevard.

Police are urging residents to stay clear of the area as their investigation continues.

A spokeswoman for Dillard’s said it was her understanding that the shooting happened in the mall and not at Dillard’s.

A woman who worked at one of the stores told Local 10 News that people in the mall started running when they heard the shots.

“Suddenly we just heard a loud bang … it sounded like the roof was falling,” said Hannah Francis, who works at the Shoe Show just by Dillard’s. ‘And then all of a sudden we heard like four shots and everyone just started running.

“It’s honestly traumatic,” she added. “Even though you saw nothing, just heard it and knew someone was hurt, no matter what happened, it’s just scary.”

Pablo Perez, who was also in the mall, said he heard four or five shots and then saw people running and screaming.
