Shekhar Kapur to AR Rahman: an Oscar is the kiss of death in Bollywood

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur says music teacher AR Rahman has often faced difficulties in the Hindi film industry because of his Oscars. Kapur made the comment after Rahman’s last interview, where he said there was a gang working against him in Bollywood, prompting him to get fewer movies.

“I’m not saying no to good movies, but I think there is a gang that, due to misunderstanding, is spreading some false rumors. When Mukesh Chhabra came to me (by Dil Bechara), I gave him four songs in two days. He said to me, ‘Sir, how many people said don’t go, don’t go to him (AR Rahman) and they told me story after story.’

“I heard that and realized, yes, fine, now I understand why I am doing less (I work on Hindi films) and why good films do not reach me. I am making dark movies, because there is a whole gang working against me, without them knowing that they are doing harm, ”Rahman said in his interview with Radio Mirchi.

Tweeting an excerpt from the interview, Shekhar Kapur, who collaborated with AR Rahman on its 2007 director Elizabeth: The Golden Age, wrote: “Do you know what your problem is @arrahman? You went and got #Oscars. An Oscar is the kiss of death in Bollywood. Show that you have more talent than Bollywood can handle …

Hours later, Rahman quoted him and tweeted that it was better for everyone to move on to “bigger things.” “Lost money returns, fame returns, but the most wasteful schedule of our lives will never return. Peace! Let’s go. We have better things to do, ”the music composer Ace posted on Twitter.
