Severe Weather Alert: Strong thunderstorms with damaging gusts of wind will sweep across the area

A cold tailgate front moving through the area will result in numerous showers and heavy thunderstorms.

Storms should occur mid-afternoon and late into the night on Friday, July 3, with the main threat being damaging gusts of wind.

There is also the potential for localized flash floods, the National Weather Service said in a Dangerous Weather Outlook statement released Friday morning.

The greatest threat will be in areas north and west of New York City. (See image above).

In addition, the National Weather Service’s National Storm Prediction Center has placed the Hudson Valley, Northeast New Jersey, Southwest Connecticut, and the extreme west of Long Island at marginal risk of bad weather.

The deadline for storm activity is around 4 pm to 11 pm Friday, which will be foggy, warm, and humid with high temperatures in the upper 80s.

Independence Day, Saturday, July 4, will be mostly sunny with the high temperature in the low 80s.
