Multiple cars in the NASCAR Cup will fall to the rear before the start of Sunday’s Pocono 350 (4 pm ET on FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
Because Sunday’s race is the second in a double weekend title, teams are supposed to use the same car from the first race. However, five teams have been approved to go to a backup car and will therefore have to backtrack before the green flag: No. 00 StarCom Racing Chevrolet from Quin Houff (supposed to start 40), the No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet by Tyler Reddick (supposed to start 30), Toyota No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing by Erik Jones (supposed to start 38), Team No. 22 Penske Ford by Joey Logano (he supposed to start 36) and Alex Bowman’s No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet (supposed to start 27).
In addition, four other drivers will lose their starting point for different reasons. Chase Elliott’s No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet and BJ McLeod’s No. 78 BJ McLeod Motorsports Chevrolet changed their transmissions. Elliott and McLeod were slated to shoot 25 and 39, respectively. Then, William Byron’s No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet and Ryan Preece’s No. 37 JTG Daugherty Racing Chevrolet changed their engines. Byron was going to start seventh, while Preece originally had pole position.
Sunday’s lineup was based on Saturday’s final results, which included an investment of the top 20 finalists.
