Seven Arrested for Racist Abuse of a Black Family in Oregon


Seven white men are arrested after “intimidating a black family on the Oregon beach by shouting racial slurs and using Nazi salutes”

  • Lincoln City police were called to the beach at 9:30 p.m. Saturday night to receive reports of a group of “highly intoxicated” people launching illegal fireworks.
  • There they say they were “immediately surrounded” by a group of 10 people.
  • After calling to request a backup, police say they “learned that this same group of white people had been mocking and challenging a family of black people.”
  • Police said they formed a line of officers to allow victims to leave the area.
  • The seven men, from Clark County, Washington, were arrested on charges including riots and disorderly conduct before being summoned and released.

Seven white men were arrested on July 4 after police said they intimidated a black family on an Oregon beach by shouting racial slurs and using Nazi salutes.

Lincoln City police said they were called to shore in front of the Inn At Spanish Head Resort hotel at 9:30 p.m. Saturday night to report a group of “highly intoxicated” people who fired illegal fireworks.

Police say they were “immediately surrounded” by a group of 10 people after reaching the beach who “began to taunt and challenge the officers.”

After calling to request a backup, police say they “learned that this same group of white people had been mocking and challenging a family of black people by yelling racial slurs at them, insulting them and using Nazi salutes towards them.”

The seven men, from Clark County, Washington, were arrested on charges including riots and disorderly conduct before being summoned and released.

In a statement about the incident, Lincoln City police confirmed that they formed a line of officers to protect victims and allow them to leave the area safely.

Police said in a statement: “The black family reported that they were intimidated by the actions this group had shown them.”

Police added: ‘Officers at the scene formed a line between the group of white people and the black family, allowing the black family to safely leave the beach and return to their room.

During this time, several members of the white people group continued to mock the officers, trying to challenge them to fight.

“Other members of the white people group began firing multiple large illegal aerial fireworks in front of officers.”

Police said in a statement: ‘The detainees were transported and housed at the Lincoln City Police Department.

Due to corona virus policies in the county jail, six subjects were issued criminal citations issued on 7/5/20.

“An additional man, who refused to identify himself and who had no identification on his person, was transported and searched the Lincoln County Jail for fingerprint identification and charged with the crimes mentioned above.”
