An American Pickle, the new Seth Rogen movie that debuted exclusively for HBO Max on August 6, has received mixed reviews that have trend mildly positive. It’s a movie about a man who is kept for 100 years in a barrel with pickles and then has to connect with his grandmother in present – day Brooklyn, but that’s not the strangest thing about it.
One viewer noticed something interesting in the background of the film, and noted it down on Twitter. In a bar where the characters often appear, a game is played on the TV, and it’s the same every time. It’s unusual for a video game to play at a TV bar at the best of times, but what makes it even more amazing is that the game is PS4 launch title Knack.
Here is the tweet from Michael Leri noting the comeo.
An American Pickle is mediocre and bizarre, but that still does not explain why Knack * always * plays in the bar in the background. pic.twitter.com/vIJ58wOznh
The game, which launched in 2013, has become a bit of a mom over time. The launch title received a 4/10 from GameSpot, and is often the mouthpiece of jokes, with players ironically calling it one of the console’s real greetings.
So why does Knack appear of all things in the background of An American Pickle? Unless First-Time Director Brandon Trost decides to lay off, we might never know.
Knack was eventually followed up with a sequel, Knack 2. It was much better.
