Of all the reasons Donald Trump has refused to wear a mask in public in the more than four months since the COVID-19 pandemic began in the US, the most important thing on the list must be fear to ridicule. That would explain why the few times he’s allegedly worn an off-camera mask, he brags about how good he looks and compares to the Lone Ranger.
On Monday night, her worst nightmare came true.
After making his first public appearance with a mask at Walter Reed Hospital over the weekend, Trump was ruthlessly teased on Monday night. Late at night host Seth Meyers.
“Yesterday, according to The New York Times, Germany reported 159 new cases, Canada reported 243 new cases, while the United States reported a total of 57,789 new cases, ”Meyers said. “So you know, the perfect time for the president to start wearing a mask.”
“Of course he dressed in black,” said the host when the photo of Trump’s masked face appeared on the screen. “It looks like there is going to be a shooting at the Golden Corral.” And then: “Seriously, buddy, get a different mask. That color combined with your mane makes you look like a gagged horse.
But while Trump’s advisers acted like this was a “big deal,” tweeting praising his boss for showing the slightest bit of responsible behavior, Meyers replied, “Who cares? You’re four months late! It’s as if someone said, ‘Shouldn’t we be doing a live action? Cats? now.”
Trevor Noah similarly roasted Trump for finally putting on a mask, and hit CNN’s Van Jones, joking about The daily show“I don’t know about you, but I think this is the day that Donald Trump finally became president.”
“Look, I’m glad Trump has finally put on a mask, but it must be confusing for his supporters who have been making fun of face masks all this time,” he added. “I mean, for them this must be like seeing Trump at a Black Lives Matter march with AOC.”
Noting that Trump has avoided wearing a mask in public “because he is aware of his image,” Noah told the president directly, “Don’t listen to any of the enemies who say you look like a diabetic Bane or Shredder of the ninja turtles if all whatever would be grated off cheese. You look great. So please keep wearing the mask. “
And then there was Stephen Colbert, who held the Trump mask photo shoot by laughing at the President and saying, “Drop it, dummy! This was all the long scam! We’ve been using them just to make you look stupid. You’ve been healthy!
