Senator Rand Paul says he was ‘attacked by an angry mob’ after leaving the White House

A video shows Paul being escorted by DC police through a crowd of protesters.

Senator Rand Paul claimed he was “attacked by an angry mob” early Friday morning in Washington, DC, while walking with his White House wife after listening to President Donald Trump’s concluding remarks at the Republican National Convention.

“Just attacked by an angry mob of more than 100, one block away from the White House,” Paul said said in a post on Twitter, while thanking the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department for “literally saving our lives from a mad mob.”

In one video made by a bystander who posted it on social media, Paul and his wife Kelley are seen being escorted by police by a fierce crowd of protesters as officers shout, “move back.” Some Protestants may be called, “say her name” and “Breonna Taylor.”

The Republican senator represents Kentucky where Taylor, an unarmed 26-year-old Black woman, was shot dead by police at her home in March.

The officer flanked to the left of Paul is seen with his bike to stop Protestants. At one point, the officer appears to be pushing a Protestant with his bike and the individual pushes back hard enough to lose the officer’s balance. Paul supports the officer with his arm to keep him from falling.

The video does not seem to be touched by Paul or his wife by touching Protestants. The couple also did not appear to be injured.

Senator Ted Cruz took to Twitter early Friday to weigh the incident, calling it “terrible.”

“This madness must stop,” Cruz said tweeted.
