The release date of the Xbox Series X is only a few months away – probably – and Microsoft has finally given us an example of what things will look like when we first launch the console. In a post on Wednesday, Microsoft gave fans their first look at the Xbox Experience’s user interface, which will connect Xbox players across consoles, PCs and mobile devices.
The new Xbox UI should be familiar to anyone using an Xbox One. Tiles still provide large images and represent most of the navigation to various menus, but everything is a bit streamlined according to Microsoft. Things like launching games, navigating to your social tabs, and searching for new games in the newly reformed Microsoft Store should all be easier on the new UI than they were before.
Speaking of the store, Microsoft also says it will be easier to determine what exactly is included with subscriptions such as Xbox Game Pass on the new dashboard. For example, which games you get for free, and which are available through cloud gaming for Android users.
More than just helping users navigate their games, the new UI is designed to be a social hub that allows players to connect with each other wherever they play. A new, much smoother and easier-to-navigate, social tab lets players chat across mobile platforms, consoles and PCs in parties and conversations, all of which will now occupy the same social tab. This way, players can always connect with their Xbox Live friends, no matter what device or version of the app they are using.
According to Microsoft, parts of this new design will start rolling in the coming weeks and by November, when the Xbox Series X launches, the UI should be completely updated.
