Governor Kate Brown held a press conference Friday to discuss Oregon’s ongoing response to COVID-19. She was joined by representatives of the Oregon Health Authority.
Officials shared the state’s latest coronavirus modeling, including estimates for hospital admissions, and also discussed the state’s plans for vaccinations.
The press conference followed Tuesday’s announcement that 25 of the state’s 36 counties are at “extreme risk” of coronavirus transmission and face the toughest new restrictions on businesses and social gatherings for at least two weeks.
When the governor unveiled a four-tier structure to enforce the sanctions, Brown’s list last week named five more counties than the original outline. Counties are placed in different categories based on case and test-positivity rates, with restrictions increasing depending on the level of risk.
Virtually all of the state’s populated counties, including Multnomah, Washington, D.C., Klkmas, Marion, Lane and Jackson, are in the “extreme risk” category.
Restrictions are placed on hospital admissions, which increase rapidly in November. The number of people admitted to the hospital in COVID-19 on Thursday was 559, 109 of whom are in intensive care.
