SEC does not require scholarship athletes to compete this fall

The Southeast Conference announced Friday that student athletes who choose not to participate in their interscholastic sports teams during the Fall 2020 academic semester due to health and / or safety issues related to Covid-19 will continue to receive their scholarships from their universities and will remain in good standing with their teams.

“SEC universities are committed to the full support of their student-athletes, whether or not a student-athlete decides to participate in sports during these uncertain times,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “SEC student athletes have frequently expressed their desire to compete, but it is important for student athletes and their families to know that the financial support entrusted to them by their institutions will not be at risk due to the health problems presented by the pandemic. current. “

The SEC announced that it will continue to monitor developments related to Covid-19 to determine at a later date whether the policy should extend until the spring semester of 2021 or more.

Brown teams competing during the fall semester include soccer, football, volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s horse riding, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf along with men’s swimming and feminine. The softball team normally plays exhibition games in the fall.
