WASHINGTON – Former White House aide Sebastian Gorka will be named to the National Security Board of Education, the White House announced Tuesday.
The 14-member board oversees the federal government’s National Security Education Program (NSEP). The NSEP was created in 1991 to promote skills in international affairs and includes oversight to award scholarships and scholarships to students, as well as grants to institutions that address “the national need for experts in critical languages and regions.”
Gorka served as assistant deputy and to the president for less than a year before leaving office. He previously focused on national security.
Gorka is a former Breitbart contributor and currently hosts a conservative radio show. His comments and articles in Breitbart claiming that Islam is an inherently violent religion drew widespread criticism. He was one of the first Trump supporters to become, and still is, a frequent advocate of Trump on cable news programs. During his time in the White House, he was the target of criticism for alleged links to a Hungarian nationalist party. He is a naturalized American citizen who was born in the United Kingdom to Hungarian parents.
He described his new role on his show on Tuesday, saying, “This is the National Security Board of Education, which makes sure that the defense, the entire defense of the United States, the government, the realm of national security, has what you need to do. His work has the support of universities, expert groups and that we have the ability to understand and defeat our enemies. “
When he left his previous position in the White House, Gorka said that the agenda of Trump’s populist campaign had been hijacked by establishment figures, but that he had remained loyal to the president.
“The president didn’t need to do this,” Gorka said Tuesday, “after all the things I’ve been through, it would be easier for him to say, ‘Don’t do it, find someone who is meaner.'” “
Gorka will serve a four-year term on the board, the White House announced. “The National Security Education Board is comprised of six presidential appointments, representatives of the Department of Defense, as well as representatives of seven additional departments at the cabinet level,” the website read.
