For the first time, the Seattle Seahawks have a player on the Reserve / COVID-19 list.
Second-year wide receiver John Ursua was placed on that list Sunday. Seattle was previously one of six teams that did not have a single player on the Reserve / COVID-19 list since the training camp began two weeks ago.
Ursua’s placement here means that he or she tested positive for COVID-19 or that he is in quarantine because he was in close contact with someone who has the virus. Teams will not reveal if a player has tested positive. Players on the list do not count towards their team’s active roster limit when they are on reserve. That means the Seahawks have an open roster spot with 79 players.
The 26-year-old was a ‘precision star’ of sorts during his rookie season, earning his place on the 53-man list. He spent much of the year as a healthy scrub, receiving only a handful of snaps in the regular season and postseason. His first career catch gave the Seahawks almost the lead in the Week 17 final against the San Francisco 49ers, but he came up just a yard short and you can tell the rest of the story from there.
It is expected that Ursua would compete for a place higher on the depth chart, but although he is on the list, he will not participate in any team activities. There is no specified time limit for when one can be removed from the list.
