SCU Lightning Complex fire burns across Northern California


Crews battled fires that burned more than 50,000 acres in seven counties in Northern California and the Central Valley on Tuesday.

The SCU Lightning Complex, consisting of about 20 fires, began early Sunday and covers areas of Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties, according to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection officials. It had been at 0% since Tuesday afternoon.

“These fires are brewing in deep, inaccessible terrain and with our low humidity and high daytime temperatures, it makes it very difficult for crews to fight this fire,” said Calason spokesman Jason Nailon.

Officials have issued evacuation orders for the following areas:

Alameda County / Stanislaus County:

  • Frank Raines Park to Mines Road
  • From Puerto Canyon Road to Mines Road

Alameda County:

County County:

  • Marsh Creek Road and Round Valley to Morgan Territory
  • All from Morgan Territory and Marsh Creek mobile home park

Road closures include Marsh Creek Road between Morgan Territory Road and Deer Valley Road, as well as Del Puerto Canyon Road between Mines Road and Diablo Grande Parkway.

Firefighters in Northern California also responded to the LNU Lightning Complex, where fires burned more than 32,000 acres Tuesday night.

The incident involved five fires in Napa County and two fires in Sonoma County. All were 0% contained within 8 hours At least 1,900 structures were threatened and three were destroyed.

Evacuation orders have been issued for both counties and an evacuation center has been set up at Crosswalk Community Church at 2590 First Street in Napa.
