Scott Eastwood on the making of ‘The Outpost’

Scott Eastwood plays a real-life Medal of Honor winner in his new movie “The Outpost.” But he hardly took the role.

“To be honest, I was very shy about taking on this role because I had already done some war movies,” Eastwood told ABC News. “I’ve done this a few times. I’ve played a soldier a few times. And I said something like that, I don’t know. I think I’ve exhausted that genre.”

But after researching the role, Eastwood discovered that there was an incredible story to tell. In the movie, he plays Staff Sgt. Clint Romesha, who survived the United States War in Afghanistan, where US Army soldiers fought a deadly attack by Taliban forces in 2009.

“When I examined the story, I realized there was much more to it than this was a major military error,” Eastwood said in an appearance on “Popcorn with Peter Travers.” “And out of that came an incredible amount of heroism from ordinary people. People who were asked to do something that was not possible. Not just the two Congressional medals of honor that were awarded during the Battle of Kamdesh, but 37 purple hearts. ” “

“The Outpost” can be seen in select theaters and airs online.
