Scientists have begun a new trial for COVID-19 antibody treatment

A new treatment trial is underway in England for coronavirus but not vaccinated.

According to the BBC, University College London Hospitals Spitals (UCLH) is conducting trials of the NHS Trust to see if coronavirus was recently exposed to some of the measures that can be protected by direct antibody injection.

“We know that this antibody mixture can neutralize the virus, so we hope that giving this treatment by injection can lead to immediate protection against the development of covid-1 in people – when a vaccine is delayed in offering.” UCLH virologist Dr. Katherine Houlihan told the news service.

It can take weeks for the vaccine to give the virus full immunity, as the body makes the necessary antibodies. The goal of post-exposure treatment is to provide an alternative – and more immediate – protection for those unable to receive the vaccine.

Antibodies can provide protection against coronavirus for up to a year, the researchers say, adding that they do not want to provide treatment as an alternative to those able to get the vaccine.

With the first results expected this spring, tests have just begun in London.
