West Virginia sophomore Oscar Schweib is moving away from the mountaineering program for personal reasons, the school announced Friday morning.
“We have the full support of the scouts, and we definitely give them their best during this time,” said coach Bob Higgins.
There were rumors of a possible relocation for Tsibwe, and their next move is not specified in the West Virginia statement, making it clear that it will not be available to mountaineers in the near future. The number of Tshibabwe has dropped since last season, but this is still a significant loss for 9th West Virginia.
Congo’s 6-foot-9 big man, Tsibawe was the country’s best freshman with an average of 11.2 points and 9.3 rebounds last season. He announced that he was entering the NBA Draft following the season, but withdrew his name and returned to Morgantown.
He has averaged 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds this season, and has averaged less than 20 minutes per game. Against Kansas late last month, Tsibway played just 18 minutes and a total of three points and five boards. He still has the potential to dominate the paint, going 11 points and 16 rebounds against VCU in November and 14 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes against Gonzaga in December.
Recruiting the former top-50 in the 2019 category, Tsibwe was selected in the projected second round of ESPN’s 2021 mock draft of the summer, but has since slipped out of the top 100 prospects.
