DUBAI (Reuters) – The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthi movement in Yemen said in a statement issued by state news agency SPA on Sunday that it had interpreted and fired a ballistic missile following the launch of civilian targets in southern Saudi Arabia. .
Boundless attacks by Iran-affiliated Houthi troops have escalated since late May, when a ceasefire was passed by the coronavirus pandemic. At the end of June, rockets reached the Saudi capital Riyadh. The coalition has retaliated with air strikes.
Al Masirah TV, run by the Iran-affiliated Houthis, said on Sunday that Saudi-led coalition airstrikes had damaged fuel tanks at a factory in Houthi-held territory.
On Thursday, the coalition said it had captured and submerged an armed drone and two ballistic missiles launched to southern Saudi Arabia.
Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since the Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 to overthrow the Yemeni government that was ousted from power in the capital Sanaa by Houthi troops. The Houthis say they are fighting a corrupt system.
