Saudi Arabia says “significant progress” has been made in resolving the Qatar dispute

“We have made significant progress in the last few days, thanks to the continued efforts of Kuwait but also to the strong support of President Trump and the US administration for bringing all parties closer together,” Prince Faisal told the Rome Forum of MED 2020.

“We hope that this progress can lead to a final agreement that looks like a reach and I can say that I am somewhat optimistic that we are close to concluding an agreement between all the nations in dispute that we think will be satisfactory “Everybody,” said Prince Faisal.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates severed ties with Qatar in 2017 in the worst diplomatic crisis to hit the Gulf Arab states in decades.

It was the first public acknowledgment by Saudi Arabia of its efforts to resolve the crisis in Qatar.

“We appreciate the efforts made by the sister state of Kuwait to bridge the gap in the perspective on the Gulf crisis, and we appreciate the efforts of the United States in this regard,” Prince Faisal said in an earlier tweet.

Earlier, the Qatari foreign minister told the same conference that current activities were underway to “end the Gulf crisis” days after Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, visited the region.

Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nasher al-Sabah said earlier in a statement on Kuwait TV that there had been “fruitful discussions” recently in which all parties “expressed eagerness for Gulf and Arab unity.” Al-Sabah thanked Kushner for his efforts.
