Saturn, images of Jupiter are real, taken from the Massachusetts Telescope

Claim: The image shows the connection of Saturn and Jupiter

A viral image has been shared on Facebook ports to show the conversion of Jupiter and Saturn, in which the two planets appeared closer to each other than they have been for centuries.

December. In a Facebook post of 23 reads “Facebook post with more than 700 shares,” I saw the best photo of the Jupiter-Saturn connection from an observatory in Chile. The attachment to the text is an alleged photo of the event which is attributed to @gm_astrophotography.

USA Today reached out to વપરાશgm_astrophotography account on Instagram for Facebook user and comment.

A special effect was added to the image

Account @ gm_strophotography originally shared the image on December 21 and gave an explanation behind it.

“This is how my small 72mm refractor looks like a conjugation through a telescope,” the account wrote with a series of attachment images. “Look at the colored diffraction spikes coming from the planets. They are unique in the fact that diffraction spikes can vary depending on the shape and size of the planet!”

Different spikes in astrophotography are “artifacts” that show up on images of bright stars where a beam of light travels and bends through an obstruction on the camera lens, causing the light to spread, capturing a good image of the sky, according to the photographing space. In other words, in the image of a star or planet, it is a straight beam of light that shows four directions from the object.

The Instagram user explained that the tape-numbing image of Saturn and Jupiter with each leading spikes was captured using tape and rubber bands to add “a little extra to the image” in a symmetrical pattern of plain crosses. “

The account owner added in the comments that the photo was taken in Massachusetts – not in an Observatory in Chile, claimed by a Facebook user.

What was the combination?

The last time Jupiter and Saturn came close was in 1623. The combination peaked on December 21, however, the planets appeared closer than the diameter of the full moon until December 25, 25, USA Today reported.

By 2020 these two planets were already moving closer to each other, and gas giants appeared closer, according to the Knight Sky Network, they are still millions of miles apart in space reality.

Earlier this month, Rice University astronomer Patrick Hartigan. “The alignment between these two planets is very rare, occurring every 20 years or so, but this connection is exceptionally rare because of how close the planets are to each other,” said USA Today astronaut Patrick Hartigan of Rice University. . USA Today earlier this month.
