Santa Barbara Co. Reports the first pediatric death related to COVID-19


Santa Barbara County is reporting the deaths of two more people who tested positive for COVID-19.

According to health officials, both were in critical condition.

One of the patients was a child between the ages of 12 and 17 living in Maria. Health officials say this is the first pediatric death involving COVID-19 in Santa Barbara County.

The second patient was over 70 years of age and lived in Lompok.

Santa Barbara County also added 186 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the county’s total to 14,376 confirmed cases as of Dec. 18.

Nine people are currently hospitalized, including 24 patients in the ICU. Health officials say 13,131 people have recovered.

The 147 deaths in Santa Barbara County are attributed to COVID-19.

An additional 582 cases have been listed as “pending”.

Three free community coronavirus testing sites are open in Santa Maria, Bulton and Goletta.

Additional testing will be available at the public health testing site in Santa Maria until Friday, December 18th.
