The County Department of Public Health identified new challenges Wednesday and admires the COVID-19 pandemic regarding contact tracking scam calls.
Dr. Penny Borenstein says the calls are affecting the county’s ability to accurately track down those who may have been infected with the disease.
“If you test positive, please contact us so we can get information from you that will help us better understand the source of the transmission,” he said.
The Department of Public Health said that community members have reported phone calls claiming to be from County Health Services, informing people who tested positive for COVID-19.
This scam has caused false rumors for many health departments, the County Public Health Department said.

Dr. Borenstein encourages those who receive a legitimate call from a contact tracker to take action and respond.
The County Public Health Department says the call will start with the 805 area code and the next digits will be 788 or 781.
