Samsung’s latest rugged tablet has also been tested for time

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Active Active 3 is a new rugged tablet designed for harsh environments, the company announced today. With more characteristic features like IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, the tablet can avoid drops up to 1.5 meters. It also backs Samsung’s promise to support “up to three pay generations of Android OS upgrades”.

Like last year’s Galaxy Tab Active Pro, the Tab Active 3 has some optimizations to make it easier to use with gloves. Its navigation buttons are more physical than touch-sensitive, and Samsung says there’s an option in the settings to make the tablet useful when wearing “thin work gloves.” Its S Pen is also IP68 certified, so it should be able to withstand water and dust just like a tablet.

Otherwise, in terms of specs, the Tab Tab Active 3 is a pretty typical Android tablet. It will launch with Android 11, Samsung says, and it is powered by an Exynos 9810 processor, with 4GB of RAM and either 64 or 128GB of storage (expanded to 1TB via microSD). It supports fast charging on a USB or Peugeot pin, its 5,050 mAh battery is removable, and can be used without a battery in a stationary location such as a data kiosk when connected to a “dedicated power source assistant”. There’s a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera, and Samsung specifically notes that the tablet’s camera is optimized for barcode scanning. It is available with LTE connectivity and Wi-Fi version only.

Samsung’s announcement does not specify specific pricing information, but does say that the Tab Tab Active 3 is destined for Europe and Asia, with releases in anonymous “select markets” starting today. For reference, while the Wi-Fi and LTE versions of the 2018 B Active 2, when they hit US retail in 2018, were discounted at $ 420 and 20 520, while the Tab Active Pro was more expensive at 99 599.99.
