Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 3 software detailed in a new leak


Various software features have been leaked from Samsung’s unannounced Galaxy Watch 3, after the smartwatch firmware was downloaded early XDA Developers Max Weinbach. According to Weinbach’s research, Samsung’s unannounced smartwatch may include more customizable watch faces, along with updates to its music, email, and calendar apps.

Watchfaces is seeing some of the biggest software changes. Weinbach says there are new designs to choose from, and some of these will include a feature called an “informational digital border,” where custom details such as your heart rate or current steps around the edges of the watch face can be displayed.

There are also changes to the clock apps. According to Weinbach, Outlook has replaced Samsung’s own email app, and Spotify will come pre-installed on the watch in the US Samsung apps are also being updated. There is a new music player app, the calendar is getting a new preview of the week, and the background of the weather app will now change based on current conditions.

The new software details come just a few days after Evan Blass leaked several apparent press images of the new smartwatch, giving you a clearer view of its likely design. In one of these images, the watch shows the date of July 22, leading to speculation that this could mark the date of its reveal, especially since a July release was previously rumored by SamMobile.

Based on previous reports, we expect the Galaxy Watch 3 to be available in two size variants: 41mm and 45mm, with 1.2 and 1.4-inch displays, and that it comes in LTE and Wi-Fi only options. Heart rate and blood pressure monitors are expected along with an ECG sensor, and the watch is also expected to be GPS compliant and rated 5ATM, making it waterproof to a depth of 50 meters for up to 10 minutes. Internally, it’s supposed to have 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage (a capacity corroborated by Weinbach).
