After weeks of waiting, Samsung introduced the successor to its first gen-fold phone at an online Unpacked presentation earlier this month. Currently, Samsung said it would share more details about the Galaxy Z Fold2 on September 1st. It’s still August, but we’ve already learned a few new things about the device thanks to a mention on TENAA, China’s telecommunications authority.
Even though the agency has not yet published a full spec sheet, the approval list gives us a look at the hardware in this upcoming foldable, and also reveals a few other leaks of info – for one thing, we now have a confirmed model number: SM -F9160.

The list also shows that the device will support dual-mode 5G for easier access to future networks. We also know that the Galaxy Z Fold2 will be produced in Vietnam, just as future Pixel devices may be.
Samsung’s Galaxy Fold2 certainly seems to be shaping up to be a huge improvement in the first generation, which was widely panned for issues with durability. The new model has some tweaks that should provide extra rigidity. And now that the device has passed TENAA certification, it will not take much longer until it is out. Prejudices should start starting next month in the US, so I think it’s time to start putting those accounts in your wallet.
