Samsung has said that pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will begin on Tuesday (Sept. 1), possibly coinciding with the event.
Samsung will probably also announce the date when the Galaxy Z Fold 2 goes on sale. We would expect it to be later in September.
Speaking of price, the original Galaxy Fold deb started at 1,980. Analysts expect the price of the new phone to be in the same ballpark, with display expert Ross Young offering a range of 7,780 to 9,980 for Samsung’s new phone.
Galaxy Z Fold 2: What we know so far
Samsung spent most of its August Gust 5 unpacked event on the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which includes a larger screen than its predecessor. The phone opens to highlight a .6-inch screen, a slight increase from the inch..3-inch display on the original Galaxy Fold, which Samsung has achieved by removing the excellent position for the front camera. The display now also has an ultra-thin layer of glass, which will add a layer of durability to the screen.
The exterior screen is now a full-cover display, with a ching.2-inch stretch. It is over 6.6 inches above the original fold.
In addition to expanding the screens, Samsung also took several steps to improve the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 to avoid the durability issues that led to the launch of the fold last year.
Galaxy Z Fold 2: We are waiting to find out
Samsung has not told us which processor will power the Galaxy Z Fold 2, however, all indications are that it is a Snapdragon 865 or Snapdragon 865 Plus. The chipset is later found in Samsung’s latest phones, including the Galaxy Z Flip 5G.
We know the phone will have three rear cameras, but we are unsure what the exact optics will be. Rumors point to a trio of 12-megapixel lenses – the main camera, ultra wide shooter and telephoto lens.
It is not clear how big a battery the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has, although some rumors suggest that it may be less than the one operating the original fold. That would be a strange decision as the new fold will have 5G connectivity – the Snapdragon 865 comes with both types of 5G modems – and it can test the phone’s battery.
