We know Samsung is set to unveil a slew of hardware devices in the coming days, and after some exhaustive leaks from Galaxy Buds Live, it’s now up to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 to reveal some of its features in advance.
As leaks progress, those coming directly from the manufacturer are the most reliable, and as the XDA developers discovered, Samsung decided to put the Galaxy Watch 3 plug-in companion app live on the Android app store.
The most interesting revelation of a dig through the app code is gesture support: you can clench and unclench your fist to answer a call, or shake your wrist to reject it, for example.
It would appear that fall detection will be included with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. If the portable device thinks it has been dropped, you will be asked to confirm that it is OK; if you don’t respond, your emergency contacts or emergency services receive a call.
Watch out for updates
XDA Developers has also been able to establish that the way of taking screenshots on your Samsung watch is changing with the Galaxy Watch 3: you need to press both side buttons at the same time to capture whatever is on the screen.
A number of wallpaper options have also been revealed, including ones that match the wallpapers arriving with the Galaxy Note 20 line of phones. Both phones and portable devices are expected to be covered at an official event in Samsung line on August 5.
9to5Google was able to crack a few more details of the app, including a flick of the wrist gesture that allows you to silence alarms and a way to open your hand to take a photo on your connected smartphone.
Incidentally, the Galaxy Watch 2 is not lost – this is the direct successor to the original 2018 Galaxy Watch. We have already leaked the name, sizes, and materials of the wearable device via a Samsung online support page.
