With all the overall positive reactions – Samsung Galaxy S20 Series, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Series, and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Series – 2020 was a strong year for Samsung with three major lineups. But look at the look and you will see that some of the lines between these series have become blurred, which may cause some to overlap in their purpose. Samsung seems to have recognized some objective-overlaps, as a new report suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy S21 will come with Ultra S Pen support, and the Galaxy Note series could get an ax as a result.
Shortly after the Galaxy Note 20 series began, rumors were circulating that the Galaxy Note series would be discontinued, but at the end of the day these were still rumors. Now, in a report originating from South Korea, a Samsung Group official has cited “confirmation” of some such rumors. First, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 (temporary name) is scheduled for release in June 2021, and the final models for mass production have entered the development phase. Next, it will come with a premium foldable under-display camera (as suggested in other previous reports) and an S Pen. And even further, the foldable S will come with a slot for the pen, integrating the Galaxy Note series into its body in the same way it does now.
S Pen support is also moving towards the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (temporary name), but this phone / series is not likely to have an integrated slot for stylus. Instead, the S Pen will be sold separately, and in some official cases there may be a storage slot.
As a result, with the S Pen support dropping out of the Note series, there is little purpose left for the Note lineup. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 was oddly placed, and while the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was a definite flagship, its main highlight is still the S Pen. Losing this uniqueness is tantamount to losing its full identity, and we wouldn’t be surprised if everything in this report turns out to be true in the end.
Along with the Galaxy Z Fold With, Samsung has developed another version of its ultra-thin glass, which is said to allow it to place an in-screen digitizer for S Pen recognition and provide better scratch protection against the use of the S Pen. The under display camera is also designed for the device for its front camera. But if the end result is not good in terms of image quality, it can be deducted from this pay generation.
We’ll have to see how Samsung’s 2021 flagship series paints. For now, don’t hold your breath on the new Galaxy Note in 2021.
