The specs of the Samsung Galaxy S21 range were leaked a while back, but that only tells half the story. If we want to know how the phone works, especially with photography, we need time.
YouTube channel Random Stuff 2 grabbed the Galaxy S21 Plus and put its camera to the test against the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The results weren’t even close.
While the random stuff 2 has a more general impression with the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus, we’re really focused on the camera at the moment. After all, it’s one of the features that can make or break a phone, and poor performance doesn’t look good if competitors ’older phones work better.
Sadly it looks the same with photos of Random Stuff 2. While the photos of the Galaxy S21 Pro aren’t horrible, Apple’s top-tier camera works better. Because the S21 Plus is set for camera specs like the standard S21, that means the base-level model will probably have the same performance.
The main problem is that, compared to that, the photos of the S21 Plus seem more washable. The images look brighter than the iPhone 12 Pro Max, but the actual content doesn’t look nearly as good.
It’s almost as if Samsung artificially increased the brightness in the post-shot process, or didn’t even bother to compensate for more sunlight in California (where these images seem to have been taken).
In some shots, like the giant metal arm, the background also looks pretty blurry on the S21 Plus. In addition to the same issues with contrast and weak color.
Video quality is also significantly worse in comparison. It looks chopper, and everything in the distance blur and more pixelated than the iPhone 12 Pro Max. So overall, not a particularly favorable comparison for Samsung.
The quality of the Galaxy S21 Plus camera on their own is not terrible, but compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max, it is very clear who the winner is. The only question is whether? What does the iPhone do that Samsung doesn’t? These are not questions we can actually answer based on a five minute YouTube video.
Of course, as Random Stuff 2 points out, this is a pre-release version of the Galaxy S21 Plus. The phone is not scheduled to launch until January 14, and will not be released until the end of the month. Assuming issues with the photos with the Galaxy S21 Plus are software related, it’s still time for Samsung to roll out some updates and fix the problem. Or reduce the distance between yourself and the iPhone at any rate.
Everything else about the S21 Plus looks positive, and, was very excited about how the Random Stuff 2 phone is performing. Of particular note was the battery, which he said lasted well throughout the day. It seems so Snapdragon 888 optimization Being put to good use. He was also a fan of how small that bezel was, and how tough the round camera lens was this time.
So right now it’s not a good look for Samsung, especially since it hasn’t been able to beat its biggest rival in a camera game so far. Hopefully things will improve in the week before the release, or very few Galaxy S21 Ultra, which has a different camera, does a good job of shattering great photos.
