The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 will have a more rounded and bigger design than its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 10, but its screen could be mediocre by 2020 standards.
This is in accordance with new rendering images tweeted by ice tech expert Ice Universe, who posted an image of what is said to be the Note 20 along with the Note 10. The filter also posted an image of the front and the back of the Galaxy Note 20, giving us more of an idea of the phone’s rear cameras.
The first image shows Note 20 from the front and the back. This is claimed to be the standard Note 20 model, as opposed to the higher spec Galaxy Note 20 Ultra as there are only three camera lenses, instead of the four we expect in the Ultra.
In addition to this, we can see the slightly curved back of the phone, its more square corners compared to the Galaxy S20 series, and its perforated center selfie camera, which has become a Samsung signature in the past year.
At the bottom of the screen, you can detect the icon of a secondary screen fingerprint scanner. This is probably Samsung’s ultrasonic reader instead of the typical optical reader used by most smartphones, like the OnePlus 8 Pro.
The following tweet compares this render of the Note 20 with the Galaxy Note 10, the model it will replace. Ice Universe explains that the Note 20 is 1 cm (0.4 inches) longer than the Note 10, but it has a flat screen where the Note 10 is slightly curved. You can also see that the drill hole for the selfie camera has been reduced significantly between generations.
Ice Universe claims the Note 20 will have a 1080p display with a 60Hz refresh rate. Arguably a bit of a disappointment, as the 1080p resolution not only seems a little low compared to many flagship QHD displays, it won’t even have the 120Hz refresh rate that Samsung showed across the entire Galaxy S20 range. The 120Hz display will probably be reserved for the Note 20 Ultra. Hopefully this means a cheaper price for the standard Galaxy Note 20.
The latest tweet from Ice Universe shows the camera sizes of the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, illustrated through what appears to be protective lens covers. As we mentioned earlier, the Note 20 is believed to have three cameras (12MP main, 64MP telephoto, 12MP ultra-wide), while the Note 20 Ultra will likely get four (108MP main, 13MP telephoto, 12MP ultra-wide, laser focus sensor). You can also see a big difference in the size of the lens holes, which will probably allow the extra light required by the Note 20 Ultra to take 108MP photos.
Samsung will fill in the remaining details of the Note 20 at a Galaxy Unpacked event that is scheduled for August 5. We can also see the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Watch 3 during the same announcement.
The Galaxy Fold 2, on the other hand, may be delayed until next month, or only receive a brief mention in the opening speech based on recent leaks indicating that the phone is not yet ready for sale.
In addition to what we’ve discussed so far, the Note 20 series will be equipped with the Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset to make it one of the most powerful Android phones to date, up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage on the Note 20 Ultra, as well as 5G compatibility.
