Earlier today, Samsung launched the Galaxy Buds Live Plugin for the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, confirming some new features about Galaxy Buds Live. Just a few hours later, Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch 3 Plugin app. On the surface, the launch of this plugin doesn’t reveal much information, but I decoded the APK resources to discover some new and exciting features that will come to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3.
The first and newest cool feature is support for hand gestures. In particular, clenching and releasing the fist can answer a phone call. If you get a phone call, just clench your fist and then undo, and the watch will answer the call. Because the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 has a speaker, you can also answer the call on the watch. If you receive a phone call that you don’t want to answer, you can shake your hand to ignore it.
Another new gesture is related to the screenshot. Taking screenshots is not a new feature on Galaxy Watch smart watches, but how you take them will change on Galaxy Watch 3. Previously, you would have to hold down the bottom button while swiping left at the same time to take a screenshot of screen . Now Samsung only allows you to press both side buttons at the same time to take a screenshot.
A great health and safety feature that Samsung is adding is fall detection. Drop detection on the Galaxy Watch 3 will work similarly to the current SOS mode. When you fall, the smart watch will chime for 60 seconds. If you don’t respond, it will send a text message with your location and a 5-second sound recording to your emergency contacts. There is also an option to make an SOS call when it goes down. For this, you will need to enter your own emergency contacts.
Along with these new features, I was also able to find all of the default watch face options that will come with the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. Some of these include upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 wallpapers. Below is a gallery with all new clock faces.
All of these new features are great additions to Samsung’s line of smartwatches, and we can expect many more to come with the launch of the new watch next month. The Galaxy Watch 3 is expected to be announced on Samsung Unpacked on August 5, and we should expect it to be available for sale soon after. Personally, I am very excited about the new Galaxy Watch 3 and everything else is rumored to be announced on Samsung Unpacked on August 5. You will be able to watch the presentation on Samsung’s YouTube channel, but of course we’ll cover the launch here at XDA.
