Shawn Mendes made a mistake while introducing Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Sam Smith on iHart Radio Jingle Ball on Thursday and immediately offered Hardik an apology.
Mendez accidentally misquoted Smith, calling the singer “they” instead of “them” during the show’s introduction.
Fans called the 22-year-old Mendes over his mistake, pointing out that Smith’s chosen pronouns are listed in his social media bio.

“I understand that Shannon might not have known that Sam Smith pronoun is he / she but why didn’t anyone correct it ?? Wasn’t this pre-filming ???” Tweeted a commenter.
“Did Shawn sexually assault Sam Smith four times in a row? Really?” Asked another.
On Friday Mendes went on to apologize to Geff on his Instagram stories.
“Oh, I’m so sorry to introduce you as ‘it’ for your jingle ball introduction,” wrote the “Wonder” singer. “It just slipped through my mind. Will not happen again .. is sending you so much love! Plus, you’re one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. “
In March 2019, Smith, 28, told actor and activist Jamila Jamil, “I’m not a man or a woman. I feel like I’m swimming somewhere in between.” Then, in September 2019, Smith came out as a non-binary on Instagram, telling his fans and followers that his pronoun was “he / she.”
“Today is a good day so go here,” Smith wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “I have decided that I am changing my pronoun for him / her – after a lifetime of being at war with my gender I have decided to embrace who I am, inside and out.”
The “diamond” singer is open about race issues and her struggles with body acceptance. He went on to say that he was appalled by the announcement, however, that he “has the privilege of being surrounded by those who support me in this decision.”
Smith also expected that people would make mistakes as soon as they adjusted to his decision but there is a request for others.
“I understand there will be a lot of mistakes and the wrong race but I ask you please try. I hope you can see me as I see myself now. Thank you.”
It was no surprise then that Smith responded kindly to Mendes’ apology.
“We’re all learning together,” Smith posted on Em’s Instagram Stories with two heart emojis.
They added, “Happy holidays, all my love xx.”
October 30, Smith’s third studio album “Love Goes” is released. They announced Twitter In March they changed the name of their album to “To Die For” after realizing they could be susceptible to coronavirus epidemics.
Mendes, meanwhile, is also busy. He performed “The Christmas Song” with his girlfriend and collaborator, Camilla Cabello, just in time for the holidays. The pair are also new pet parents for a sweet puppy named Tarzan.
Mendes’ fourth studio album, “Wonder”, was released last week.
