Sam Fisher, the hero of Ubisoft’s bedroom Splinter sel franchise, will participate in the Rainbow Six Tax line up. Ubisoft Montreal pleaded guilty to the Third Echelon spymaster in a video Tuesday, and promised a full reveal on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The reaction from the community? Well … it’s not the unintentional raving that Ubi might have hoped. Rainbow 6’s subreddit was modestly enthusiastic, fueled by a worldwide communication from operator Finka to Rainbow boss Harry Padney.
“It’s strange to see him after all these years – somehow he hasn’t changed at all, but in others?” says Finka, whose father apparently knew Sam. “At least he’s good old.”
Redditors immediately realized that this is not Michael Ironside’s gruesome voice, because actor Fisher has not been in a Splinter Cell game since 2010’s Condemnation. Ironside missed 2013’s Blacklist because he was diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer, but he nevertheless returned to the role for a crossover event with Ghost Recon: Wildlands in 2018.
YouTube commentators were very snarky: “At this point, Sam Fisher will be appearing in every Ubisoft game except his own,” said one commenter. “Raving Rabbids vs. Sam Fisher DLC, anyone?”
“‘You should know better than to write me off,’ because Ubi does everything but make a new Splinter Cell game,” cracked another.
In the seven years since Blacklist, Fisher has appeared in Wildlands en Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, en has been a reference of Easter Egg in the 2019s Division 2 en Far Cry: Not Dawn.
Fans had expected Fisher to see him in Tax since February, when Ubisoft Montreal released a Road 5 map that showed one new character for the upcoming season 3 represented by a big ol ‘CLASSIFIED stamp. Subsequent leaks prompted Fisher’s performance well before Ubisoft announced the news.
Season 3 will also get a reworking of the Skyscraper card, plus the ridiculous, customary, and custom timed event and gameplay updates. The new content is expected to finally launch in September.
