RZA has penned a new ice cream truck jingle for the ice cream company Good Humor. The goal is to replace “Turkey in the Straw,” the American national anthem that provides the melody for the famous ice cream truck song; “Turkey in the Straw” also has a racist history, as it was often performed in minstrel shows. “We wanted to create a melody that encompasses every community, that’s good for every driver, that’s good for every child,” explained the co-founder of Wu Tang Clan. “And I’m proud to say, for the first time in a long time, a new iceberg will be made available for trucks across the country, forever. That meaning is forever – like Wu-Tang forever. And I can assure you, this one is made with love. ”
Regarding RZA’s jingle at truck drivers, a Good Humor spokesman told Pitchfork, ‘The brand works with distributors to share educational materials with drivers, and strongly encourages them to use their’ Turkey in the Strait ‘ stop and advise them on how to use alternative options – including RZA’s new original jingle. ”
The spokesperson went on, “Good Humor made the new jingle available to ice truck drivers nationwide (for use forever) starting this month through Nichols Electronics, the family-based, Minneapolis-based manufacturer of refrigerator music boxes and at GoodHumor. com / jingle. ”
