Ruth Bader Ginsburg hospitalized for a non-surgical procedure – Deadline

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is being hospitalized after she underwent a non-surgical procedure.

The court press office said justice was resting comfortably and she was expected to be released at the weekend.

“Judge Ginsburg underwent a minimally invasive non-surgical procedure today at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City to review a bile duct stent that was originally placed in Sloan Kettering in August 2019,” said the court. “According to their doctors, stent reviews are common occurrences, and the procedure, performed with endoscopy and medical imaging guidance, was performed to minimize the risk of future infection.”

Earlier this month, Ginsburg said she was being treated for a recurrence of cancer but will remain in court.

“A periodic scan in February followed by a biopsy revealed lesions in my liver,” he said in a statement, adding that a course of chemotherapy was “giving positive results.” She said she will continue biweekly chemotherapy treatment, but that she can continue an “active daily routine.”

Ginsburg, 87, is the second longest serving justice in court, after Clarence Thomas. It was nominated by President Bill Clinton and confirmed in 1993.

Ginsburg was admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital earlier this month to treat a possible infection. The court said he underwent an endoscopic procedure to clean the stent from the bile duct.
