Naval fell seriously ill on a flight from the Siberian city of Tomsk to Moscow on August 20. He was initially hospitalized in the city of Omsk two days later before being brought to a charity hospital in Berlin.
“The patient’s condition has significantly improved in discharging him from critical inpatient care,” said a statement from Berlin’s Charity Hospital. “Alexi Naval has been undergoing treatment at Charita for a total of 32 days, of which 24 days were spent in intensive care.”
“Based on the patient’s progress and current condition, physicians believe that a full recovery is possible. However, it is too early to calculate the long-term potential effects of his severe poisoning.”
The German government says the Kremlin critic was poisoned with a chemical agent from the Soviet-era Novichok group, a finding supported by two other labs in France and Sweden.
The Kremlin has strongly denied any involvement, but many questions remain.
Novich okno was also used in the March 2018 attack on former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in the English city of Salisbury and has given Russian dissidents many poisons in the past.
