The Senate confirmed Monday that Russell Vought would serve as director of the White House Office of Administration and Budget.
The Senate voted 51-45 to confirm the nomination. The director runs the president’s budget office.
Vought has led the WBO since January 2019 in an acting role after former office director Mick Mulvaney was chosen to be the White House chief of staff.

In March, Trump announced that Mulvaney would be reassigned as the United States’ special envoy to Northern Ireland and that Representative Mark Meadows, RN.C., would be moving to his post as chief of staff.
A well-known fiscal hawk, Vought has been one of the public faces of the president’s budget. He previously worked in various leadership roles with the Republican Conference of the House of Representatives and the Republican Study Committee and was Vice President of Conservative Action Heritage for America.

“Russ has been a fearless advocate for the American taxpayer, and his steadfast fiscally conservative principles make him an excellent choice to head the Office of Management and Budget,” Heritage Foundation President Kay C. James said Monday, after of the vote.
Vought was confirmed to be the WBO deputy director in early 2018 by a narrow margin after Vice President Pence broke a 49-49 tie. The vote was strictly along the party lines.
