Rumor: Google to compete with Zoom by combining Duo and Meet

Google currently has two different video chat applications, though each is designed for a different use and different users. Google Duo is for non-professional video chat, such as when your girlfriend or boyfriend wants you to “happy birthday”, and “happy valentine’s day”, or to show your parents that new apartment you rented in Brooklyn. Duo is used to help you share the visible moments of life with your friends and family.

Google is definitely looking to combine Duo and Meet

If you need a video for a business meeting, Google has its Meet video conferencing feature, which can be accessed from the Meet app or from the tab at the bottom of the Gmail app. According to 9to5Google, G Suite CEO Javier Soltero was made head of consumer communications services in May; this unit includes Duo, Messages, and Android’s Phone app. At that point, sources say that Soltero employees began to tell that there is no reason for both Duo and Meet to co-exist. Google has been working hard on Duo and has added new features. But in the midst of the global pandemic, people working at home have used video conferencing programs such as Zoom, which are designed for business use and can handle large meetings with as many as 100 participants for free.

Google is looking to include Zoom and the way to do that is to combine Duo and Meet. Since Meet is more of a video conferencing app than Duo, it would appear that it will be the Meet name that remains. By having just one video app, consumers will avoid being confused about whether to use Duo or Meet for their purposes.

During the entire pandemic, Google not only promoted Meeted to include Zoom, it also added new features to Duo. For example, Duo can now handle video calls with as many as 32 people simultaneously. And Duo video calls can now be connected by tapping a link, just as you can join a video call on Zoom and Meet. If you apply for example New meeting will bring a link that can be shared with others that the host wants to attend the video conference.

Google has the potential to make Zoom a more expensive competitor. Meet is free for the moment and Google could decide to keep pricing for a while. When Google Duo and Meet are combined, the new name for the remaining video conferencing app could be called Duet (a portmanteau created by combining the first two letters of Duo and the last two letters of Meet). Before this happens, however, sources say that some features of Duo will be moved to Meet, such as integration of phone numbers and the use of end-to-end coding. Some security measures are already available for Meet users. Nobody can attend a Meet video conference without being invited or authorized by the host.

By combining Duo and Meet, Google would no longer have two dedicated video / conferencing solutions. Instead, it would have one video app that could be used by both consumers and by the company. When this can happen is unknown; meanwhile, Google is making its video apps available for both Android and iOS. Google Meet may be installed from the App Store and from the Google Play Store. Duo is me available for iOS and Android
Wil Apple buff FaceTime up to compete with Zoom? Do not add up. Unlike Meet and Zoom and even Duo, Apple’s video chat app only works on iOS, which means not everyone could use it for a video conference.
