Royana Black, who appeared on Broadway in Brighton Beach Memories and starred in the main character in the short comedy Raising Miranda, has died. She was 47 years old.

Black died July 14 in Los Angeles after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia, his family announced.

When he was 10 years old, Black joined the cast of Neil Simon Brighton Beach Memories in 1983 to portray Laurie, Eugene’s younger cousin (Matthew Broderick) and Blanche’s daughter (Joyce Van Patten) who has heart problems.

In 1988, she played the daughter of a single father (James Naughton) in Raising MirandaBut the CBS comedy aired just nine episodes before it was canceled.

Born on March 1, 1973, in Poughkeepsie, New York, Black graduated from Yale in 1994 with a BA in Victorian literature.

She went on to be a guest star on series including Medium, Cosby’s show and Touched by an angel and serves as Artistic Director and President of the Alliance Repertory Company in Burbank.

Survivors include her husband of 11 years, actor JP Hubbell; her mother, Gloria; and her brother Robert. A GoFundMe page has been created to help your family.
