Rory McIlroy took note – and added some mischief – Brooks Koepka on Saturday again overshadowed 54-hole PGA Championship leader Dustin Johnson, whom he adjusted to having only one career-size compared to the four Koepka won .
“I heard the interview and was just a little surprised by kind of what he said and whether he was trying to play mind games or not,” McIlroy said after his round Sunday. “When he tries to play mind games, he tries to do it to the wrong person. I don’t think DJ really cares a lot [about] dat.
“I try to respect everyone here. Everyone is a great player. If you won a big championship, you’re a hell of a player. Does not mean you have won only one. You won one, and you had to do a lot of good things to do that. I mean, kind of hard to beat a man [Johnson] that has 21 wins on the PGA Tour, which is three times what Brooks has. ”
Johnson finished with a 2-under 68, but finished tied for second, two shots behind Collin Morikawa, the 23-year-old whose PGA Championship victory was his first big win.
