Roosevelt Hotel to be closed permanently in Midtown Manhattan – NBC New York


A supernatural instability in Midtown Mahatt Newton’s landscape, the Roosevelt Hotel will soon join the ongoing coronavirus epidemic in New York City’s growing list of industries.

A spokesman for the hotel since the outbreak began in March confirmed the closure on Saturday. Reuters reports that the last day of operation of the hotel is October 31.

“Due to the current, unprecedented atmosphere and the continuing uncertain effects of COVID-19, The Roosevelt Hotel owners have made a difficult decision to close the hotel and colleagues were notified this week,” the hotel said in a statement.

About 500 people were employed by the hotel when management issued the furlough back in March, according to the state Labor Department. Employees say they were notified of the closure on Friday, many of whom have a deadline of October 17.

“It’s sad that we’re about to reach our centenary in a few years. It’s like a New York sign,” said employee Jaime Lopez.

Ariel Grulo has worked at the Roosevelt Hotel for 23 years and questions the timing of the announcement.

“The excuse is epidemic, but we all know the hotel has been coming in since January, they say they sold the hotel in January and they didn’t tell anyone so they are ignoring our agreement with the union. 2026,” Grulone said. “I think now because of the epidemic they got a good excuse to do what they were trying to do before.”

The Roosevelt Hotel closure has been downgraded by the current announcement by Times Square Hilton, Courtyard by Marriott by Harold Square and W Hotel, all closed by epidemics.

The statement said, “The iconic hotel, along with most of New York City, has received much less demand and as a result the hotel will close operations before the end of the year. There are currently no plans for the building beyond the scheduled completion.” Conclusion.

Like other iconic fixtures in the city, The Roosevelt Hotel has served as the backdrop for many Hollywood blockbusters.

Opened in 1924 and named after President Theodore Roosevelt, the hotel was ashamed to celebrate 100 years in business for a few years.
