Roosevelt Hotel closes in NYC due to epidemic damage

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) – After nearly 100 years in business, the historic historic Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan will close due to economic losses caused by the coronavirus epidemic.

The hotel is expected to close by the end of October.

It has about 500 employees, some of whom were on duty in March, while some were still on the job.

The Roosevelt Hotel opened its doors in 1924, located at 45th Street, just east of Madison Avenue.

A hotel spokesperson released the following statement:

Due to the current, unprecedented atmosphere and the constant uncertain effects of COVID-19, the owners of The Roosevelt Hotel have made a difficult decision to close the hotel and colleagues were notified this week. The iconic hotel, along with most of New York City, has also experienced much lower demand and as a result the hotel will close operations before the end of the year. There are currently no plans for the building other than the scheduled completion.
