Ronnie Lott thinks Kyle Shanahan is the new version of Bill Walsh’s 49ers

Bill Walsh is among the incomparable in the NFL.

The legendary 49ers coach is in the Professional Soccer Hall of Fame for a reason as a three-time Super Bowl champion and offensive innovator. Not many agree with Walsh’s impact on soccer. However, could the next Walsh be training the 49ers right now?

Ronnie Lott thinks so.

“They are there on the offense and the reason I think they are there on the offense is that, and I said this is, Kyle [Shanahan] it’s our version of Bill Walsh, “Lott said June 30 on SiriusXM NFL Radio.” I think he is one of the most innovative boys in professional football when it comes to offense. “

Hall of Fame security played his first eight seasons with Walsh in San Francisco. He won three Super Bowls with Walsh as coach and was an All-Pro three times. Lott clearly knows Walsh’s greatness and sees him in Shanahan.

Throughout his first three seasons as the 49ers’ coach, Walsh was just 21-27 in the regular season, while Shanahan was two games better, winning 23 games in the regular season. But Walsh won the Super Bowl in his third season in command, while Shanahan fell short, leaving the Kansas City Chiefs a late lead in Super Bowl LIV.

Walsh’s first season as coach of the 49ers was Joe Montana’s rookie year. Montana fit the Walsh west coast offense perfectly, and the two won three Super Bowls together. What Walsh did for Montana, Lott believes that Shanahan can do the same for Jimmy Garoppolo.

“What I think is that he is going to get better and the reason why he will get better is that he will understand the offense better, he understands a lot more about the offense discipline and another thing that I think will be great for him is that being with the guy, possibly the best offensive mind in football, that’s Shanahan, suddenly you have to be able to know that you are going to find ways to improve your game because he is going to find ways to improve your game, “Lott told Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Bay Area.

“Bill [Walsh] It would improve Joe’s game because he found ways to understand what else Joe could do with his game, and that’s the same with Jimmy. “

Shanahan is only three years under his belt as head coach. Those three years, however, are on par with Walsh.

It is impossible to say that Shanahan is the next Walsh and will lead the 49ers to multiple championships. However, getting a seal of approval from an all-time great player like Lott is certainly a revelation.
